If you live in the area, come on over to Intensity‘s smoothie bar, where my Glowing Green Smoothie recipe is featured this month.

You don’t have to be a member to stop by and get your fill of greens.

People are surprised by how naturally sweet it tastes-and they love knowing how healthy and satisfying it makes them after a workout or to take on-the-go while doing errands.

So what is a green smoothie?

It’s simply a blended drink that includes fiber (juices do not include fiber) using organic greens like spinach, romaine, kale, etc. that is usually blended with water and fruit, and sometimes a healthy fat (like avocado, nut/seed butters, coconut or flax oil).

It is highly alkaline, dairy-free, refined sugar-free, boosts your immune system, helps with weight loss, reduces cravings and so much more!

I suggest having a green drink everyday. A green drink a day helps keep the doctor away.

I mix up my green smoothie recipe all the time, depending on what time of day I’m having it, or how hungry I am.

If you want to have a more cleansing and detoxifying green smoothie, use water, banana, some pineapple, apple, raw baby spinach,  and blend.

It’s best to have that as your very first meal of the day on an empty stomach (it’s the same philosophy I use when I teach my juice cleanses, which is to have your green juice on an empty stomach for better absorption and easy digestion)

If you want to have a smoothie that is slightly more substantial, like a milk shake that can be a small meal, use almond milk as the base instead of water, banana, raw baby spinach, and a plant-based protein powder if you choose. Sometimes I add in a squeeze of lime, a splash of coconut water and a pitted date.

Experiment and see which version works best for you.

Many of my clients love the almond milk version for breakfast (recipe below) as it satisfies and gets a good dose of greens in the morning-and we all know we can use more greens in our diet!

So come on over to Intensity’s smoothie bar, and try The Glowing Green Smoothie or use the recipe here and start blending at home.
